Who can get a free NHS flu jab?

The NHS offers a free flu vaccination to people at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell with flu. You can usually get a free flu jab at our pharmacy if you are:

  • Aged 65 or over (including if you turn 65 by 31 March 2027)
  • Aged 18 to 64 with certain long-term health conditions (a clinical risk group)
  • Pregnant, at any stage of pregnancy
  • Living in a long-stay residential care home
  • A carer receiving Carer's Allowance, or the main carer of an older or disabled person
  • Living with someone who has a weakened immune system

Children aged 2 to 3 and school-aged children are usually offered the flu vaccine through their GP surgery or school, and frontline health and social care workers usually through their employer. Eligibility is set by the NHS and reviewed each year — if you are not sure, our pharmacist will check for you.

When to get vaccinated

We vaccinate pregnant women from 1 September and other eligible adults from 1 October. Flu tends to circulate from late autumn, so it is best to be protected early — most people are vaccinated by the end of November, though eligible patients can be vaccinated up to 31 March.

What to expect

  1. 1A quick check that the free NHS flu jab is right for you
  2. 2Your vaccination, given by our trained team
  3. 3Aftercare advice, and your flu vaccine at the same time as COVID where you are eligible for both

Not eligible for a free flu jab?

If you are not in an eligible group but would still like to protect yourself, we offer a private flu vaccination too.

Eligibility for the free NHS flu vaccination is set by the NHS and confirmed by pharmacist assessment. This service is not for emergencies — if you feel seriously unwell, call 999, or NHS 111 for urgent advice.

NHS flu vaccination FAQs

When does the NHS flu vaccination service start?

We vaccinate pregnant patients from 1 September 2026 and other eligible adults from 1 October 2026. Bookings are open now, so you can secure an appointment in advance.

Who is eligible for a free NHS flu jab in Swindon?

Free NHS flu vaccination is offered to eligible groups including adults aged 65 and over, adults aged 18 to 64 in a clinical risk group, pregnant women, people in long-stay residential care, carers, and people who live with someone who has a weakened immune system. Our pharmacist will confirm your eligibility.

Do I need to book, or can I walk in?

You can walk in during pharmacy hours or book online. Booking helps us keep your wait short during the busy autumn period.

When should I get my flu vaccination?

Pharmacies vaccinate pregnant women from 1 September and other eligible adults from 1 October. It is best to be vaccinated before flu starts circulating, and most people are done by the end of November, though eligible patients can be vaccinated up to 31 March.

Can I have my flu and COVID vaccines together?

Often, yes. Where you are eligible for both and it is clinically appropriate, we can give them at the same visit to save you a second trip.

What if I am not eligible for a free flu jab?

If you are not in an eligible group but would still like protection, we offer a private flu vaccination. Ask our team and we will explain your options.

Where are your pharmacies?

Our NHS flu vaccination service runs at both of our Swindon pharmacies: Clive Parade Pharmacy, 16 Clive Parade, Cricklade Road, Swindon, SN2 1AJ; and Moredon Pharmacy, Moredon Medical Centre, Moredon Road, Swindon, SN2 2JG. Choose whichever is more convenient.
