Before you enquire

This service is not for urgent illness

Please contact your GP, NHS 111 or 999 rather than waiting for a private appointment if any of the following apply:

  • Difficulty breathing, or breathlessness at rest
  • Chest pain, coughing up blood, or a very high fever
  • Confusion, drowsiness, or feeling very unwell
  • Infection spreading quickly, or a rash that doesn't fade under a glass
  • A child under 2, or anyone with a weakened immune system

What it covers

Minor illness in Swindon, beyond the NHS pathways

NHS Pharmacy First covers seven conditions with fixed eligibility criteria. This private service is for minor illness in Swindon that falls outside them — seen by a prescribing pharmacist, usually far sooner than a GP appointment.

Chest infections

Persistent cough with fever or coloured phlegm, where you're otherwise well in yourself.

Skin infections

Infected cuts, boils, cellulitis and similar, where the area is localised and not spreading rapidly.

Other minor illness

Conditions that fall outside NHS Pharmacy First but can be safely assessed and managed in a pharmacy.

Not everything can be managed in a pharmacy, and we won't pretend otherwise. Tell us what you need and we'll be straight with you about whether we can help — before you book anything.

How it works

How it will work

01

Register your interest

Message us on WhatsApp, email, or call either pharmacy. We'll let you know as soon as the service launches.

02

We'll tell you honestly

Once we're live, if it isn't something we can help with, we'll say so before you book and point you to the right route. There's no charge for that conversation.

03

Private consultation

A £25 consultation with our Independent Prescriber, in a private room at Clive Parade or Moredon.

04

Treatment if appropriate

Where treatment is clinically appropriate, it will be supplied at the end of your appointment. The cost is confirmed with you first.

Get in touch

Be first to know

Register your interest and we'll let you know as soon as the service launches. No clinical detail needed — just tell us roughly what it's about.

Please don't share medical details over WhatsApp or email. Anything clinical is discussed with the prescriber in your consultation.

Questions

Before you decide

When does the service launch?

We're finalising the last few details and expect to open appointments shortly. Register your interest on WhatsApp, by phone or by message and we'll let you know as soon as it's live.

How much will it cost?

The consultation is planned at £25. If treatment is clinically appropriate, the cost of the medication is added on top, and always confirmed with you before anything is supplied. If we know in advance we can't help, we'll tell you before you book.

How is this different from NHS Pharmacy First?

Pharmacy First is a free NHS service covering seven specific conditions with set eligibility criteria. This private service covers minor illness that falls outside those pathways. If you're eligible for Pharmacy First, we'll always tell you — it's free, and it's the better route.

Who can use the service?

Anyone aged 2 and over, subject to assessment. Children under 2 should be seen by a GP, NHS 111 or urgent care rather than a pharmacy.

Will I definitely get treatment?

No. Treatment is a clinical decision made after assessment, and it isn't always the right answer. Our prescriber will explain what they've found and what they recommend, which may be self-care, a referral, or something else entirely.

Can I be seen the same day?

Often, subject to prescriber availability. Get in touch and we'll tell you the earliest we can see you.

Where in Swindon are your pharmacies?

The service runs at both of our Swindon pharmacies: Clive Parade Pharmacy, 16 Clive Parade, Cricklade Road, Swindon SN2 1AJ; and Moredon Pharmacy, Moredon Medical Centre, Moredon Road, Swindon SN2 2JG. Choose whichever is more convenient when you get in touch.

Is the consultation private?

Yes. Consultations take place in a private consultation room at either pharmacy, not across the counter.

This service has not launched yet and appointments are not currently available. Treatment is never guaranteed and is a clinical decision made following assessment by our Independent Prescriber. The service will be for people aged 2 and over and is not for emergencies — call 999 in an emergency, or NHS 111 for urgent medical advice.
