Strep A Testing in Swindon

Rapid Strep A testing in Swindon, with your result in around five minutes. A simple throat swab tells you whether a sore throat is likely to be caused by Strep A bacteria — so you know whether antibiotics are worth considering, or whether it will settle on its own.

  • Deciding whether you need to see a GP
  • Sore throats in children aged 5 and over

What to expect

  1. 1A short conversation about your symptoms, your temperature and how long you have felt unwell
  2. 2A quick swab of the back of the throat, taken by our trained team — uncomfortable for a moment, but over quickly
  3. 3Your result in around five minutes, explained clearly
  4. 4If the result is negative, advice on easing your symptoms and what to look out for
  5. 5If the result is positive, we will talk through your options — including the free NHS route where you are eligible, or a referral to your GP

Eligibility & assessment

Suitable from age 5 and over. If you are eligible for NHS Pharmacy First, we will always tell you — that consultation is free, covers sore throat from age 5, and can include treatment where clinically appropriate. A paid test is most useful if you are not eligible for that route, or if you simply want to know before deciding what to do next.

Seek urgent medical help — call 999 or go to A&E — if you or your child have difficulty breathing or swallowing, are drooling or unable to swallow saliva, have severe pain on one side of the throat, a stiff neck, or feel very unwell. These can be signs of a serious infection that needs treating straight away, not a test. Please also note that no rapid test is perfect: a negative result makes Strep A less likely but does not rule it out completely, so if your symptoms get worse or do not improve, please seek medical advice.
